Bloomsday in Melbourne is a mini-festival held every year on 16 June, and sometimes on the surrounding days. It celebrates James Joyce's novel Ulysses – its humour, its challenge to rethink the world, its experimentalism.
We are peripatetic, so Bloomsday can crop up anywhere in Melbourne (or Dublin, Ireland, or Kobe, Japan).
It aims to show that Ulysses is for everyone. Each year, we explore a different aspect of Ulysses. This is done using theatre, a seminar and (chatting over) dinner with readings or a song or both.

Bloomsday in Melbourne holds Irish and Irish-Australian theatrical and musical events between Bloomsdays. These events are typically rehearsed readings of high quality.
They are usually held at the Celtic Club and in our patrons’ homes. They keep us in touch with our community, allow us to give actors more work, and most importantly, they help underwrite the costs of the annual Bloomsday Festival, especially insurance and theatre hiring costs.
Tax-deductible donations!
In addition to our own fundraising efforts, we are registered with the Australian Business Arts Foundation, and are able to offer sponsors a tax-deductibility for their donations to our enterprise.
