BLOOMSDAY 2020 -
ULYSSES IN PLAGUETIME
HERE'S WHAT WE DID FOR 2020...
A SOCIALLY DISTANCED FILM FESTIVAL IN 18 EPISODES
Tuesday 16th June 2020
BLOOMSDAY 2021 - COMING SOON!
For the first time this century Bloomsday in Melbourne has had to abandon theatres.
Undaunted, we’ve gone virtual.
Here's the lineup:
1 T H E F I L M F E S T I V A L
18 (short) films, a hecticslam version of Ulysses in under 90 minutes. Experience the rollercoaster of an extraordinary and simultaneously ordinary day on Thursday 16 June 1904, a gamechanger, in company with Poldy, Stephen and Molly (and a few more – remember, we’re socially distancing, even actors). The films were originally seen according to Joyce's timetable and now are available on Facebook and on Bloomsday in Melbourne's YouTube channel.
If you enjoy the films and would like to join us in thanking Director Jen and her wonderful cast, you can donate here:

What’s a film festival without the craic and the schmoozing? You’ll be wanting to share your views with others. Join us in the virtual foyer on our special Facebook page (book in now free, gratis and for nothing).
After each film, or whenever suits you, join us on Facebook for the most democratic Bloomsday Seminar ever, hosted by Philip Harvey and the Bloomsday scripters (Frances Devlin-Glass, Sian Cartwright, Steve Carey and Bruce Beswick) to discuss whether and how the films distil Joyce.

You want more? Very well… come with us this way to our Blog, a wordfest in which the filmmakers interrogate their own choices of what to put in and leave out of the films, and riff on relevant contexts for the chapter, and generally get garrulous and animated about the book they love to celebrate, read and re-read.
