    Joyce attracted much hostility from the censors and purity snoopers under the Comstock Act in the US. This culminated in the Little Review case in 1921 in which the novel was deemed pornographic. Bloomsday 1997 examined the bases of these judgments and Joyce's determination to press on regardless.
